Shreduary Strikes Sugarbush (Slashin' Snow)

In my attempt to catch-up on all the goings on in this already packed with excitement Shreduary, I'll start with the most recent trip up to the infamous G305.

Everyone on the East Coast, and over large tracts of out West too, have spent weeks, if not the whole season griping about the lack of killer snow.  I won't add onto that much as then to state the obvious.  Before we got back to the condo, a classic January rain system swept through the entire North East, and demolished solid snow packs.  Everything froze solid and great conditions were ruined.

So in the days preceding this trip, we all anxiously hoped for a few inches here and there to repair the damage done.  Thankfully, light repairs were made.  With Sugarbush getting something like 10 inches over the span of 10 days and firing their guns at full blast - and it being already February - I really wanted to get up there.  Hit here or the header to read on and get the rest of the run down.

Spring Time Sucks (Little More Season Left)

Well as we are now in the middle of March and the big trips (Jackson, Utah) are in the history books, we can now look forward to mushy skiing and clearance sales.

While the NY component of the Moguls is headed up to G305 on Friday, I will likely be attending last weekend festivities at Liberty - coming back as a returning hero after my big win.

Quick recap. Jackson Hole was amazing. It's only a few days since we've been back, but most of us are now reshaved (minus my chin steeze) and back to the grind (the bums lost Dong).

Jackson was a big gnarly mountain. The only thing I didn't like about it was I had to leave. As conditions kept improving while we were there, it was as if the mountain kept getting bigger, more interesting, and more challenging. So many spots on that hill could be turned into full day sessions. Whether they were cliff drops, tree runs, or steep slopes, endless terrain variety abounded. I'd pay 1200$ any day to have one powder run at the Hole, it is that good. Hell, even the traverses at Jackson are good. First mountain I've ever been on where you can be on a flat traverses on a board yet still be able to cruise to the next trail or across the mountain without ever stopping and having to push.

So let's enjoy Spring skiing, t-shirt riding, and goggle tans. Perhaps a trip to Mount Hood is in order for June, and a trip to Chile to ride South American style during the heat of the Summer.

A Lull in the Action (Not for Long)

February, at least for one Seen always sees a downturn in the action for the inevitable destruction that will be the big March trip. Just an FYI there, Jackson just hit 300 inches.

This Feb will be different though. The majority of Boloney is headed to G305 for a weekend of debauchery, shredding, and bad fashion. (and hopefully some gnarly filming)

Pico / Killington / Sugarbush update:

Pico - currently a balmy 3 degrees. And what's that howling? Oh, of course. It is the lovely Vermont wind that makes Pico famous and frostbitting. No new major snow since the huge dumping last week, but they have snow on the radar for saturday, sunday. Powder Monday anyone?

Killington - 7 degrees, feels like -8, but you won't feel a thing. Oh how Killington is lovely this time of year. Of course, Killy will likely get the same weather Pico gets, but will be way icyer because of the crowds.

Sugarbush - Sunny and 8 degrees. Well atleast you don't have to worry about your beer getting warmer. A 175 inch base and they got two feet in the last week. Not too shabby. If I was going up to VT, I think this would be a great spot on Saturday.

Well on the other hand, this guy is going to shred some real sicky gnar gnar (weather permitting). I have to say "weather permitting" because in the Mid-Atlantic, it rains during Febuary. Yes. Rain. In the middle of the damn winter.

The target for this weekend: Seven Springs. Southern PA's premier resort for sucking ass. A 3 1/2 hour drive for a 750 ft vertical. Trails almost three quarters of a mile! And crowds, oh the crowds. Let's keep our fingers crossed because I'm sure it will be epic!

President's Day weekend is shaping up to be a good one. With much nomading, most of the gang will be crashing at CT's place in VT. Should be a sick weekend of hot-tubbing, Okemo-ing, and Magic Mountain - ING.

All told - this is just a warmup. Jackson Hole is on everyone's radar and it can't come soon enough. Boloney Moguls is hungry, hungry for altitude and delicious out-West POW POW.

The riding never stops.

The Icy Hand of Death (Cannibalism Strikes Boloney)

It is my grim duty to report that we've lost many of our own. On Friday, the gang went up to G305 to "shred" Pico for opening weekend. In what was surely imagined as an epic weekend, feet of snow kept falling. It got so heavy that the group was stranded up in VT because of the heavy and constant snowfall, the deep pow pow, and the perfect conditions. Now it has become clear, the worst has occurred: they've resorted to cannibalism, have all turned on one another, and are surely dead by now.

Communications to mountain basecamp have been sketchy. Short, garbled cell calls - with what must have been screaming and singing in the background. Text messages with horrendous misspellings and laced with cries for help. Lamentations of agony coming from the hell that must be what being marooned in G305 with limited food and copious booze must be like. I can't even imagine the horror, the horror.

I received panicked texts like this from Kath: "I just shocked myself." They are clearly resorting to electrocution up there to survive, anarchy has clearly broken out. Or later from BP: "Greatest day of my life." I take that as they have devolved into some prehistoric form of human where they find the taste of live human flesh maddening.

Before I lost comms, the last message I could make out over the calls for help were what could only be described as Les Stroud singing "I am Canadian." This means only one thing of course, Canadian rescue crews, led by Survivor man, have trekked down from the True North, too late, and have found the frozen and dismembered corpses of Boloney Moguls. A sad day indeed.
